Picked up 3 nice halibut today

cruz082010-006.jpgcruz082010-001.jpgIt was slow fishing but fun anyway.  Got two on the morning high tide and one on the afternoon low.

Squid, sand bass and white fish

lj8-10-10-002.jpgNo trophy fish today but we caught a tank of squid and fished all the hot spots for not much but two big whitefish.  Stopped at the wreck of the La Janelle on the way home and sandies were biting.  Perfect weather and a great day on the water despite teh lack of halibut and sea bass we wanted.

Two halibut, two sharks, slow day

cruz8-5-10-003.jpgcruz8-5-10-002.jpgWe had to work for these two flatties.  They didn’t bite until the afternoon high at 1600.  We fished all day and pulled on various sharks, bat rays and black sea bass until we finally hooked two of the right kind back to back.  Don’t quit early!

Wide open barracuda at Pitas Point

pitas7-29-10-007.jpgWe got into a smoking hot barracuda bite this morning and put 30 of them on the boat in 2 hours.  They were slamming krocs, iron and live bait.  Double and triple hookups.  Saw some threshers around the boat but they weren’t biting.  Plenty of life in the water, seals, dolphins, anchovies, pelicans etc.

5 Barracuda and a big leopard shark at Rincon

rincon7-21-10-001.jpgWe went up to Rincon to try to find the rumored sea bass bite.  All we found was a bunch of hungry barries and a big leopard shark.  We hooked four nice threshers in close but all four bit off the flourocarbon leaders and they wouldn’t touch a wire leader.  Nice weather and plenty of bait in the water all day.

1 halibut, 1 White sea bass, 1 barracuda

cruz7-16-10-004.jpgcruz7-16-10-001.jpgCrappy weather today in spite of a nice forecast.  Went out with the Port Hueneme Navy guys and got some nice fish anyway.  The halibut was 30 plus and hit a yo-yo iron.  Awesome! Also got a log barracuda but no pictures of it.  Back to the slip and cutting up fish by 1700.

47 pound halibut, 30 pound sea bass, 4 keepers

cruz7-8-10-006.jpgcruz7-8-10-016.jpgcruz7-8-10-009.jpgcruz7-8-10-003.jpgWhat a great day at the Islands with Dave.  Just recreational fishing, no charter today.  Started out great with 3 keeper flatties in the first few minutes.  Then we lost a few big fish and got blown around by the wind some.  In the afternoon, the wind settled down for a great drift and we got a 30 pound white sea bass.  Next drift, a 47 pound halibut came over the rails.  Final score: 5 halibut and 1 WSB.  Awesome!!!!!

Three halibut plus barracuda, calico

pedro7-3-10-003.jpgFished all day with Jeff and Mike for 3 halibut at Santa Cruz.  Barracuda and calico bass were also biting some.  White sea bass were also in the area and we saw a few caught but none on the FUJI III.  It was a good day anyway.

Slow day, 1 halibut, 1 sea bass

dsc01555.JPGWe fished Anacapa today and worked hard for 2 fish but they were both beauties.  A halibut and a WSB about 25 pounds each.  Thanks to the Nguyens for being good sports about the slow fishing.  I didn’t hear of anybody else doing much better.
