Plenty of bonita, no halibut

Tried the backside of Anacapa Thursday for homeguard yellows but it was too windy (from the south) to get a decent drift without dropping the anchor. Water temp 61. Then we ran over to Chinese Harbor to get out of the wind and try some halibut drifts but no luck, just a bunch of bonita including a couple in the 7-8 pound range. Got a bunch of big macks too including some big ones trolling a feather. Kept them for hoop bait. Water temp in Chinese was 64.5. Weather was great, just no good fish biting. Only saw one stinking water dog all day, which is a big improvement over last trip, when they ate 8 out of 10 hooked fish.

Monday morning, wind still howling

It blew all weekend and isn’t supposed to let up until Thursday. I’m ready to fish when it does.

Lobster hooping Thursday night

Went out to the Ventura breakwall for a little hooping Thursday afternnon/evening. Conditions were perfect, plenty of bugs crawling but mostly short. Managed 4 keepers right after sundown. Home by 10PM.

Welcome aboard FUJI III

The website is brand new, thanks very much to Vern Larson who put it together.  The fish are biting, the weather is nice and the boat is ready to go.  Lets go fishing!
