FUJI III was on the halibut today

halibut6-20-09-001.jpgHad a party of four that really knew how to fish.  We went to Anacapa because the weather was forecast to blow out of the west.  Stayed there all day because the fish were biting so well.  Ended up with 9 nice flatties, a ton of calico bass, mostly released, plus some sugar bass and a barracuda.  Excellent day on the water!

Fairly decent day at the Islands

Went to Anacapa to try for yellowtail.  No luck on them but plenty of nice calicos, a halibut and hooked some kind of freight train that pulled us around 40 45 minutes before breaking the line.  Probably a big BSB or shark.  Ended up with two halibut, bad weather, plenty of calicos and a 4 foot soupfin shark.

It was a great day at Anacapa today. Got a ton of nice calicos and barracuda early. Then we picked up 3 yellowtail and a couple of halibut including a 30 pound one right at the arch.

2 Thresher sharks close to home

thresher7-3-09-001.jpgDidn’t feel like crossing the channel today so I just went up to Arco Island 20 minutes from home to try for threshers. Got 2, kept one to eat and was home by lunch time. I know it was just a pup but it got all wrapped up in a wire leader and it was too bad to release.  Great day on the water.

3 more big halibut today

halibut0703_1.jpghalibut0703.jpgOne was over 30 pounds and caught on a salas iron. Unbelievable! Also picked up the first barracuda of the year.
