The weather man got it wrong today.  It was blowing hard in the channel but nice once we got to the Islands.  Slow but steady halibut action all day with a 25 pounder, two 13 pounders and a barely short.

FUJI III went out to Santa Cruz today.  The weather was nice but the water looked like leftover coffee.  It was black and churned up full of silt.  We still managed to catch a 13 and 30 pounder, 1 on the incoming tide and one on the falling tide.

Finally got back on the water today on a solo trip to the Islands, just to see what was out there in mid Feb.  The weather was beautiful.  The water was a little colder than I would like but there was plenty of free squid and sardines to jig up.  I picked up one 13 pound halibut on the falling tide and that was it.  Better than nothing.

Fuji III went out to Santa Cruz today while the rest of the fleet went to Anacapa to try for the yellowtails.  We got three halibut and broke off a few more.  We also got a guitar fish, two leopard sharks, two soupfin sharks and some bat rays.  Great weather and decent fishing for late November.

No love from the halibut or WSBs today at Santa Cruz.  THe water temp had dropped 3 degrees from last week and nothing was biting.  Ran over to Anacapa and instantly got a double hookup.  They were pulling like trains but we landed both of them after about an hour on light tackle.  One was about 100 pounds and the other about 150.  Both safely released.

Fishing was slow but we had a double hookup on WSB late in the day and landed them both.  We had two more on after the first two but farmed them both when the lines tangled.  All fish caught on live squid from the Seabiscuit.

I took some guys from VAW-113 at Point Mugu out diving today.  Conditions were awesome.  I threw some frozen squid over while they were diving and got 4 bat rays.  Not much of a fish report but there wasn’t much fishing going on.

Slow day fishing today unless you like bat rays.  In between the bat rays, we got two halibut,  a calico and a couple of rockfish.  We had every kind or weather from dead calm to sunny to overcast, windy and foggy.  Water temp was 62-64, moon and tides just right.  Sometimes you do everything right and still don’t catch much.  Pics to follow.

FUJI III took a load of kayakers out to the islands today.  I did a little fishing around Anacapa while they were paddling and got a short barracuda, a short yellowtail and a 25 pound flattie.  Sorry, no camera on the boat today.  Great weather.  Maybe we will have a good fall bite since the summer was terrible.
